Dough Networkz Releases Exciting Double LP 'Dis for the Project'

Dough Networkz, the underground curator from Inglewood, California, has made his mark on the hip-hop scene once again. His summer 2019 debut record 'Above Cloud Vision' was already legendary with DirtyDiggs at the controls, but he now has something new for us. A while ago, he helped put together Lord Mobb Music's 'East to West,' which ended up being released as a double album. These two discs, which dropped one week apart, give us no less than 33 tracks.

We kick off with the track "Niyyah" by Osbe Chill and Tek, in which they talk about being strong and wrong at the same time. Next come Boldy James and Trizz with "A Day Late & $1 Short," a chunky lead single in which the gentlemen brag that they were raking in money before they ever got between the sheets. "Fake Dead" brings a wavy west-coast sound with Jason Martin delivering the track's saltiest verse, while Big Twins raps about his hood on "Dreamin'" like he's putting his whole soul into it.

Conway the Machine and Sirrealist come in hard with "Sawed Off," a raucous boom bap track in which your nose will be blown over if you stick it the wrong way. Jay Worthy, meanwhile, throws a party atmosphere with "3 Hours Past Noon." On the soulful track "Never Knew," Jameel Na'im X, King Akeem & Young Roddy admit that the value of love took them by surprise. Domo Genesis evokes the warm vibes of the Southwest with "Sunsets Over Inglewood."

On "Old Rules," N8NOFACE gives a big middle finger to young guys who call him an old head; instead, he feels proud. With "Automatic Lovers," Airplane James & The Jack Moves trade hip hop for a sultry soul ballad. And the lineup of Ab-Soul and co. makes "Rap Camp" an epic 7.5-minute posse cut. Crimeapple & RLX take us back to their collabo "Los Pollos Hermanos" on "Crime Networkz.

"Eyes of the Beholder" by Tha God Fahim penetrates deep over a spooky beat, while Baron Davis & T.F. dive into the same spirit of the movie 'Uncut Gems' with "Goodbye Twice." "Lil Bobby" by Hyde Park Firebug & Traffic brings us pure real talk, and "Play Your Role" shares sage advice from Cala the Prophet & Eastside K-Boy.

The second disc, Side B, begins with Drebo's west-coast banger "Don't," which immediately evokes nostalgia for Nate Dogg. Meanwhile, Black C & Lil Woofy Woof take over with "Black Bentley" showcasing their gang roots. Brodie Fresh & The Musalini champion their player lifestyle on "Player Made," while AJ Snow therapeutically shines his car on "Beverly Hills Car Club."

Osbe Chill & Rome Streetz interpret the journey to riches with "However" and Westside Webb steals the show with "Phone Call from Dough." Kai Ca$h raps on the oldschool vibes of "Cash Rules" that money always speaks the language. Flee Lord, MC Eiht & NHale bring both coastlines together in one perfect track with "West to East."

Da$h & his crew rock out on "Sticks & Scars" about belated karma, and Baron Davis & 2Eleven go hardcore in "Mika & Sef." Chance Infinite's "Center of Change" is prayer in chaos, and Jonah Love's "Designer Drugs" is reminiscent of Boldy James' grimy style.

"Money on the Fly" by Mitchy Slick & Trizz captures a fat sample, while Vel 9 moves to the stars on "The Invitation." On "No Fronts," Huey Briss brings out his clientele, and Sadat X closes with piano tones on "Where We Are." The icing on the cake is Big Cheeko & JAY NiCE's closing track "Time is Now," about the woeful state of gossiping and slacking off.

This double LP, "Dis for the Project," follows up Dough Networkz' debut "Above Cloud Vision" and remains fresh with its breadth of artists, from oldschool heroes to newcomers looking to make their way into the scene's footlights. This project gets a solid 7 out of 10 from us; it remains salty and engaging for any true hip-hop head. What do you think?
